Born March 7, 1807, Dublin, Ireland and died February 19, 1887 in Philadelphia. Second wife of Henry Dana Ward married May 26, 1842, Fairfax County, VA. Together they opened a school for girls in New York City where they remained until retiring to Philadelphia. They had four children.
After receiving his degree at Harvard College, Artemas taught school for a time in Groton MA. He married Sarah Trowbridge and returned to Shrewsbury. The newlyweds started a family, ran a General Store in the center of town and became respected members of the community.
